Getting good quality topsoil

Topsoil is the uppermost layer of soil; it’s the last ingredient added before turf is rolled over the top. For the turf to root effectively you have to buy good quality topsoil and here are a couple of the things you should be looking for.

Consistent Texture

Really good quality topsoil that’s ideal for turfing needs to be consistent. For example, there should be no stones, pebbles or lumps of clay. If you do come across a bad batch, don’t lay it because your grass won’t root.

Higher Organic Matter Content

Good topsoil will also have a higher organic matter content if you want the turf to root quickly once laid, whilst obtaining all of the essential nutrients that plants and micro organisms feed off
