The Types Of Patio Awnings

If you’re looking for a nice addition to your garden or patio, you should consider the many attractable awnings available. With many people trying to find additional ways to add value to their properties, some are turning to their gardens as a quick win. If you already have a patio, you could consider an awning.

Awnings are a great addition to your patio as they increase the amount of time you can spend outside. The only problem is choosing the right awning for your needs. To make this easier, you need to know more about the types of patio awnings on the market.

Retractable Patio Awnings

One of the most common types of awnings is the retractable one. As the name suggests, the awning is attached to the wall and pulled out when needed. If you think this type of awning is old fashioned, you should note that they have changed over the years.

While you can still get the traditional retractable awning that is manually worked, you can also get on with a motor. There are some retractable awnings that have sensors and will automatically open. The sensor could be set to extend the awning when the sun hits a certain area or when there is rain. They can also be programmed to retract when there is wind.

Wall-Mounted Fixed Awnings

Wall-mounted fixed awnings will be open all the time and provide constant shelter from the elements. These awnings will often need additional support poles to increase their durability. The material used for the awning itself will generally be more durable than that in a retractable one.

These fixed awnings are ideal if you want a permanent shelter over the patio. As they are fixed, you will never have to worry about opening them in time or track maintenance.

Freestanding Awnings

A lot of people do not realise that it is possible to have a freestanding and portable awning. These awnings provide you with a lot of freedom when it comes to furniture placement on your patio. However, they will generally not provide the same amount of shelter as wall-mounter awnings.

These freestanding awnings generally have two poles attached to foundations. Between the poles is the drum that holds the awning. When the awning is opened, arms beneath the material will extend and hold it in place. You will need to have space for these awnings and they are not the best option for small gardens.

There are many different types of awnings that you can use to cover your patio. The retractable awning is the ideal if you want something that only comes out when you need it. A permanently fixed awning will offer constant shelter and a larger covered space. Freestanding awnings are also available, but they will not provide the same level of cover as the others.
